I started this blog to document my year in Oman, where I will be conducting research on female poets and translating their work from Arabic into English.  This is my first foray into the blogosphere, so please speak up if you see any particularly ridiculous statements.

  1. Burlington, really? I used to live in Boston and would often go to Stowe and Smuggler’s Notch in the winter. Now living in Athaibah too. Miss skiing.

    • Wow, small world! I do miss the snow sometimes …

  2. Hi, I’ve been checking out your very comprehensive and cool blog. It seems that you have just moved to AlAzaiba and I wanted to welcome a fellow-American to the neighborhood. I live here in an apartment (with a kitchen) with my wife and three kids and our house-keeper. I teach in the English department at Sultan Qaboos University. My wife’s first language is Arabic, but mine is very weak. I’m sure we would be interested in your work. I have a colleague at SQU who is doing a good deal of poetry translation–although he is taking Baluchi poets into Arabic. Anyhow, if you’d like to chat, let me know. Derik Smith
